Corey Jackson Wants to Ban Police K-9's

Meet Corey Jackson...

Corey Jackson has been trying to ban the use of police K-9 units in California… saying dogs have a “racial bias.”

He authored Assembly Bill 742, which sought to ban the use of police dogs for arrests, apprehensions, and crowd control.

Jackson states that the use of police dogs has historically been linked to racial bias, citing that K-9 units have disproportionately targeted communities of color, particularly Black and Latino individuals.

You can’t be serious, right?

As you would imagine, the bill faced significant opposition from lawmakers and law enforcement agencies, who argued that K-9 units are essential for de-escalating situations and providing a less lethal option in dangerous scenarios.

Police groups, including the California Police Chiefs Association, contended that removing police dogs as a tool for apprehending suspects would increase the likelihood of more severe uses of force, such as firearms, during confrontations.

Luckily, AB 742 did not pass in its initial push due to lack of support.

What’s Next?

👉 As of February 2024, AB 742, the bill authored by Corey Jackson, failed.

👉 However, Jackson later reintroduced the bill with modifications. The revised bill was eventually passed by the California legislature.

👉 We did good by stopping AB 742, a bad bill that would have harmed our communities and people, but that’s not enough… we have to stop Corey Jackson.
